Arun took his phone, dialed the number.
"Hi. Sorry for calling so late, need your help",
he said.
"Hey man. No worries, what time is it?" asked
Karan. This was the second time this week that Arun had called him this late.
"Slightly after 2:30 AM", replied Arun.
"Woah, is everything okay?" asked Karan.
"She is talking in her sleep again. Also, a lot of hand
and feet movement, looks like nightmares again. I am unable to sleep, I am
worried for her as well."
"What did you have for dinner?"
"Simple dal and rice, nothing heavy."
"And when did she go to bed? Did you watch any movie
before sleeping?"
"We were watching some TV show that she likes, nothing
serious - just a sitcom actually. We were watching TV till around 11:30 and
then we slept after that”, said Arun.
"Okay. Put your hand on her head, just massage her
forehead a bit. Is she sweating?" asked Karan.
"She isn't sweating, she does feel slightly feverish
though. Okay, I am just gently massaging her head now."
"Any improvement?"
"She isn't talking now, but her hands are still moving
- just like the gestures that she makes when she is in a conversation."
"Okay. Just hold her hand, not that tight but firm.
Sometimes this could also happen because she experiences pain in her feet. Just
gently press near her ankles."
"Okay, I will try that."
"Sure, just be gentle though. Give it some time. Be
patient, be comforting."
"This seems to be working, her hand movements are
reducing."
"Yes. This should work, she should cool down in a few
seconds. Could you catch any of the words that she was saying?"
"No, a few basic words here and there but overall, it
didn't seem to make much sense."
"Probably another nightmare. How is she doing
now?"
"Much better, movements have stopped. She is sleeping
peacefully now."
"Glad to hear that. Any reason why you didn't wake her
up instead? Get her out of this nightmare?"
"I had done this a few days back but then she had a
difficult time falling asleep again. So instead, decided to try to put her out
of her misery without waking her up."
"Works. Anyway, I think you should try and get some
sleep too, I am sure it won't be easy for you either now," Karan replied,
laughingly.
"Yeah. I think I will read for a bit, that usually gets
me tired and drowsy."
"Okay then, good night, Arun."
"Thanks again, Karan. I never realized that once I
marry Neha, I will be calling her ex-Husband for help every now and then!"
"Anytime. Anyway, you are managing well yourself. And
we did try to end it well, Neha and me. So, I don't have any issue helping out
when I can. She is an amazing woman, Arun."
"She sure is. Good night, Karan."
"Good night."
